How it works
Detective does one thing, and tells you exactly what it did.
Take a picture or pick one from your library. A clear, front-facing photo of a single person gives the most useful results.
Detective sends the photo to its face-search provider, which compares it against images already published on the open web.
You get a list of links to publicly accessible pages. Every result is a possible match, not a confirmed identity — open the source and judge it yourself.
Privacy
We would rather describe the app accurately than promise something it does not do.
Detective looks at pages that are already reachable by anyone on the open web. It does not sign in to accounts, bypass privacy settings, or read private messages.
The app processes the photo you choose and what it needs to run the search and manage your subscription. It does not collect your contacts, your camera roll or your location.
Running a search requires sending your photo to our provider over an encrypted connection. We say so plainly rather than promising on-device magic the app does not do.
You decide which photo to submit and when. You can ask us to delete the information associated with your use of the app at any time.
Limits
Being clear about the limits matters more than a longer feature list.
